Here's the very first sketch of Shiri, and some descriptors for her (which were altered slightly). Physically, she was based on one of the singers from the Russian band TATU (the one with the short spikey hair, obviously).

Her name comes from the Korean movie (and my favorite flick) "Shiri," starring Yun Jin Kim (who you may also recognize every week from the TV series "Lost." The movie is awesome (and very violent), and certainly worth the rent. Don't watch it dubbed, though - terrible dubbing in that flick.
