InuYasha rip off!

One of my own goals of writing up this little Manga and having Mayshing draw it, is trying to improve my own artwork. Like, it's not like I'm lazy or anything, I just honestly feel that right now my own drawing skill isn't nearly enough to carry a manga, and I would have no idea what I was doing. In an effort though to improve my own skill I tried this little experiment.

I pulled out an InuYasha mag(I don't really care for the seires, but it's what I had on hand) and I scanned through it and found what looked like the most simple pic in the whole thing. Then, I tried to copy it and this was the result. For thoughs that want to know, this is from Volume 4 of InuYasha, Scroll Nine, the issue is called To Hell, and this is the cover page.

I had originally wanted to copy a Sailor Moon pic from one of thoughs mags, but after scanning through that I just said, geeze, no way, just no way can I draw that. PS. Sailor Moon rocks

Anyways, after I was done copying the cover I said to myself, you know, this may look good, but all you did was copy a picture. You nearly traced the thing! I don't think that counts as good art work. So, in order to show myself that this was indeed an improvement of skill, I made up a character from scratch and tried to draw that person using the same style of artwork. The main girl is from the InuYasha comic, the girl in the top right corner I made up myself. Then I added the speech bubbles for fun.

Shockingly, I like the look of the girl I drew up all on my own more. Sure, the eyes are to big, but she looks so cute!

I'm very shocked that I was able to copy someone elses artwork and change it to make up something from my own mind. I got to keep up this drawing, it's starting to get really fun!
