There's nothing more disheartening than a joke or reference of your own conception sailing over the heads of your audience.

No, don't give me that, I know what you're about to say. Inside jokes do not fall into this category. Their sole purpose is to be just that - fly over everyone's head and reach that one, lucky person thereby temporarily making everyone else feel inferior for that moment. It's one of the few things in life that simultaneously destroys and reinforces bonds between people.

So what is the goal in this lifetime? To be included in as many inside jokes as you can.
