What would happen next? Does the adventure come to an abrupt end, or does the hero/protagonist wander around aimlessly until they are favored by fortune and stumble upon their objective? I don't think people give these old dudes enough credit for how pivotal they are to the progression of the quest. That is why I declare - if it hasn't been done already - a Sage Appreciate Day.
However, isn't it a little odd that these all-knowers willingly give advice? Many of them undertake the hermit lifestyle or show signs of hermitude. And hermits want nothing to do with society! So wouldn't they like nothing more than to see it crumble before their waking eyes while nestled in their aging cabin on the mountainside? Or maybe they would be disdained to not have a society to distance themselves from. Oh, how typical. Another paradox to waste my day thinking about.
Anyway, the point I'm trying to make here is that if you want to be successful in life, you need a sage. It's listed as the most important step to a successful life in my upcoming book, The Fourteen Step Process to Doing Anything.
