When Granny's tree first appeared in the comic, I thought the whole "squirrels live in hollowed-out trees" thing couldn't be true. But I really wanted Granny to live in a hollowed-out tree, so I decided "Eh, it's Chessie and Granny. Who's gonna question it?" Upon doing actual research much later, I learned about the different kinds of squirrel nests, including cavity nests. But I liked this page too much to throw it out. Besides, this conversation comes from Chessie and Granny. Who's gonna question it?
