Skyangel is guite right (of course she is, she has read through the old version of the comic!) Basicly, Tom's subconscious didn't just lock up the memories of Rene, but also blocked out any reference to the incident. Tom dated girls without realising that he didn't feel about it as strongly as might be expected. He talked shit about porn with other guys without worrying about the fact that he never even watched the stuff.

Wednesday will bring Butler's explanation about the whole mess ^^
