It's that time of year again! Voting has officially opened for the Drunk Duck Awards… which means, time for me to pander for votes! It's going to be tough getting nominated this year. More than any year in recent memory, there are lots of really good new comics in pretty much every category I'm running for. So I guess all I can do is cross my fingers and hope my readers turn out to vote. (*ahem* by “my readers,” I mean YOU! Go vote! Do it now!)

Click on the link below to go to the Drunk Duck Awards ballot. There are a lot of categories to vote for, but it's okay to leave some blank if you don't know a good worthy candidate. Oh, and don't vote 'Transneptunian' in every category. The awards staff hates that!

It's kinda dodgy putting this comic up for a Best Adult Oriented when there hasn't been much explicit sex in the comic for a while, but there was the Veranda Scene earlier on, and another sex scene coming up soon (I've conveniently timed it to just barely post before the judging starts). And of course there are the animations. So I think this comic still qualifies. It's certainly not a “wall-to-wall” sex fest; it's more of a sci-fi acion thriller with erotic elements, I guess you'd say.

One last thing before I go… I had originally planned to post a world-building blurb here but, because I've cluttered up the author's notes with DD Awards stuff I'll post a much shorter version.

The relationship between Jetta and Manu is a bit odd by our own modern standards, but it's not an unusual arrangement in the time of this comic. To give the super abbreviated version, societal factors stemming from longer lifespans, increased automation, and high cost of living have led to a society where there's virtually no such thing as entry-level or unskilled work, and skilled and professional jobs tend to be hoarded by an ossified hierarchy of entrenched intellectual elites. As a result, young people have a bleak outlook when it comes to finding a foothold in the professional world, where opportunities are few and far between, and competition is brutal. (Yes, despite living to be over two hundred years old, people do still have children)

So it's not uncommon for young people – especially those whose families can't afford to support them indefinitely and lack the connections to get them set up in business – to latch on to an older person who's already established. These apprenticeships may last for many years and often will involve a sexual component, as is the case with Jetta and Manu. That, in a nutshell, sums up their relationship: semi-maternal, semi-professional, semi-intimate. Mentors will often refer to apprentices as their children.

Now go vote.
