183 - Armed Response

The Nova Dagon security forces' downward spiral of ineptitude continues.

Not the greatest of pages, which is why we're doing three updates this week. I did at least partially like how some of the “flooded barracks” panels came out though. You may be able to guess who that is sneaking up behind our fearless security dude in the last panel, as there's only one character who's demonstrated a love for (very lame) knock knock jokes. Well, you'll all find out soon enough. There should be one more update coming later this week, probably Friday or Saturday.

REFERENCES

recovery team: A paramedics unit that specializes in stabilizing the recently deceased so that they can be “recovered” – that is, brought back to fully functional life. Not all dead are recoverable; it depends on any number of factors, such as how much and what kind of trauma the victim sustained, how long have they been deceased, that sort of thing. Even severe brain trauma can be fixed, especially if the victim has an up-to-date external restore point.

Hmm, that “restore point” thing makes me wonder. Let's say a friend gets killed so dead that they can't bring him back, but he did have a very recent restore point so you pay someone to create a synthetic clone of him. It's a perfect copy, complete with his personality and memories up to 24 hours ago… What the hell kind of legal status do you give such a thing? It doesn't inherit his stuff. Even though it's identical to him, it's not him… and there's always the possibility that it will diverge from the life trajectory your friend would have taken, the same way identical twins end up liking and doing completely different things. What if it kills somebody? Can the clone claim it's not responsible, because it's not his fault he was “born” with a personality that was a ticking time bomb? Are you civilly liable, because you cloned something that killed somebody?

Why do my thoughts always go to a dark place?

See ya next time!
