El Cid
on

Hi, I'm El Cid, and I do a webcomic. I do so hope you will read it!

Okay, so it's been a few months since the last chapter, and I've mostly squandered that time doing other not-comics type things, but I do have a few pages ready to post. It should be enough buffer for me to post regularly or at least semi-regularly for a little while. Things may not go quite as smoothly as they normally do, so please bear with me as I get back into the swing of things.

The new pages should begin posting in a week or two, and there will be a recap on the first page, for anyone who's new to the comic or just doesn't remember what was going on. This is part two of a two-part “mini” story-within-the-story which, if it sounds confusing and misguided and unnecessary, that's because it is all of those things. But nonetheless, it should be fun to read. So, if you haven't already, please remember to Like and Favorite this comic so you don't miss any updates when this gets going!

Since this is sort of a non-page, I figured it would be a good place to post some aborted project material that just failed to launch. No better way to start things off that with depressing creative failures!

This animation project was meant to be a series, just like my previous George Jettison spoof animations, featuring a well known cartoon scientist.

Unfortunately, I was unable to come up with enough funny gags to justify the series. Add to that I was having technical problems getting my mad scientist character to import properly into my animation software, so I finally just axed the whole project. Our unnamed mystery scientist did however make a low key cameo in the background of our Acceptance Page at the Drunk Duck Awards.

I enjoy doing the science blurbs for this comic mostly because it forces me to keep learning things and discovering new ideas. But sometimes I'll find myself in completely unexpected places. I was looking into the idea of alternative gender pronouns for a future society where biological sex is much more fluid and transient than it is today, and was shocked to discover there are over 70 proposed gender pronouns out there (zim, xir, ve, etc.). Digging a bit deeper, I soon found myself in uncharted waters. Some people apparently take this stuff extremely seriously, and it's a good illustration of why any attempt to make long-term projections of human behavior is such messy business. People are not purely rational beings, and predictions based on formulaic atomistic behavior models are destined to fail eventually.

So I abandoned the blurb, because I realized nothing I can write here will do the subject justice. Instead, to illustrate my frustration, I'll post this Youtube video of clips emerging from the Jordan Peterson fiasco. For anyone who doesn't know (because I didn't until a few weeks ago), Dr. Jordan Peterson is a psychology professor at the University of Toronto who suddenly rose to fame (or infamy, depending on who ask) after finding himself in hot water when he refused to use gender neutral pronouns as legally required by a proposed federal law. Madness ensued. Note: I wouldn't recommend watching this if you have high blood pressure.

Humans are garbage. Have a good week!
