Lesson of the day: Jump scares are less effective in webcomics than they are in scary movies. Shame on you, Cid.

Looks like Ula still has control of herself, despite the evil hijack bot worming into her brain. Maybe it only has partial control over her?

Back on page 176, Bravo pointed out something that should have been obvious to me: When the bot drilled holes in Ula's ears to reprogram her, that probably messed up her ability to hear. So I had to insert a line of technobabble here to explain how she's able to still hear stuff. I'll go ahead and pat myself on the back; you don't need to do it for me.

Where I can get away with it, I try to avoid going into any depth concerning the future technology at play in this comic, but there is some overlap with transhumanist concepts. The people living this far out in the solar system tend to be heavily cybernetic and in particular have a great deal of augmentation going on with their brains. When Avram asks Ula if she's been “jolting,” he's referring to the practice among cyborgs of intentionally running high voltage through their brainware to produce psychedelic effects. As has been mentioned a few times already, Ula has reputation for abusing her brainware in a number of creative ways. So we can now add eyeball-popping power surges to her list of vices.

There should be one more update late this week, either Saturday or Sunday. I usually try to avoid weekend posts, but it's sort of a goofy page, which makes it a prime candidate for weekend burial.

For any football fans in the readership, good luck to your respective teams tonight at the NFL Draft. I for one am very much looking forward to seeing who my Houston Texans select on Day 1!

Hmm, what's that? The Texans don't have a first round draft pick this year? Oh. Well, that's okay; I'm sure they'll find a diamond in the rough tomorrow in round two!

Hmm? They don't have a round two draft pick this year either?

Oh. Well.

Fuck.
