Weekend Extra: The Evolution of Pilar Santiago

Okay, now that Thanksgivings out the way, it's time to get things going again. So here's a new Weekend Extra.

This weekend is about Pilar Santiago the Original Butta. Butta is based on a girl from my high school days when I worked at a fast food restaurant. The Real Butta was original from New York and still had an accent. Her voice always put me in the mind of Rose Perez. She was very voluptuous, very promiscuous, and her nickname was JIF (a brand of Peanut butter). We called her JIF for the same reasons Butta is called Butta in my comic. She was one of those people who are extremely book smart but a bit of an air head, when it came to common sense, and she had a tendency to date the wrong guys.

As you can see, the first couple of drafts of Pilar, she fit JIF to a tee. In fact, she looked a little too close to the real Butta for my liking. (Since I have friends back home who read this and know her). So I changed her up, slimmed down her body (version 4) and give her glasses. Around that time Clerks 2 came out starring Rosario Dawson a hot Spanish actress. Even though my story was written long before the Clerks 2, I knew my comic would get compared to the movie. So to lessen the comparison, one of the things I did, was change Pilar from the Hot Bad girl co-worker, to the Good Girl of my comic. That way Pilar would be as far away from the restaurant as possible. Her personality was tweaked to better suit her new part. She kept her accent (even though you can't actually hear the accent), her intelligence, and tendency to date the wrong guy. Her voluptuous body and promiscuity were given to next week's character discussion: Phoebe Brown.

Well that's all for this week. Hope you guys are enjoying these Extras.

P.S.:
Do anyone else have any trouble copying and pasting from word to the note box? Whenever I do, all my comma do something funky.
