044: That There's An Allen Wrench

Hey, TEO fans! I've got a bunch of big, big news this week. Whoooo!

Firstly, you can now link to TEO's (vastly better than this one) SS site through the easy-to-remember web address of teocomic.com. No more needing to remember how to spell "SpiderSpawn"! No more terrible looks on other people's faces when I tell them my site's address at parties! We've gone legit, ladies and gentlemen, and things are lookin' good.

Secondly, the smash hit DD community webcomic Starving Artists is back online, and I recently did an update! Read it from the beginning here. It's in a totally, completely different style from TEO this time, but I hope you'll still like it. It took me flippin' forever to do. (That's why I'm updating eight days late, instead of just seven.) Consider this your extra treat in compensation for not getting any TEO action last week.

Um… whatever comes after secondly… er… wait… thirdly. Yes. Thirdly. That doesn't sound right, does it? Thirdly. We might as well eschew the whole cardinals system thing from here on out.

Anydangways, I also got a new sketchbook to replace my sucky old school-issue Sax that I've been drawing TEO on recently! My new one is a Strathmore Premium Recycled Sketchbook (save the environment!) that's 11" by 14"– a real monster huge one. It's great for getting all the little fiddly bits that I need, and it certainly doesn't bleed like the old Sax. The only problem is getting used to drawing everything larger than it will appear on the webpage (and imagining where text balloons will go has only gotten harder). And scanning the actual pages in. I have to do two scans and patch the images together. Grumble.

Coming up this Wednesday is Hourly Comic Day, a contest sponsored by famed hourly comic artist Joseph Campbell. Basically the idea is that you make one short journal comic per hour for every hour that you're awake; it's kind of like 24 Hour Comics day, except there needn't be a unified storyline or complex art or staying awake until you collapse. The focus is more on your life, and it takes a quick hand to churn one out per hour. Which is why I'm trying my hand at it. I mean, I have absolutely no patience when drawing. I frequently take shortcuts. To me, this will be a snap! I recommend trying it.

And… that's all for this week. TEO Inquiry of the Week (doot doo doooooo!): If you had a fancy coat of arms, what would you put on the little scroll under the shield as a motto? (Kind of an interesting middle age-y question. I don't know.)

Sincerely,

Ian Jay
