Someone has discovered the joy of reading.

For the record, though they have been here for a while, this is admittedly abnormally fast for him to be picking things up. I did a little research into adult literacy and I know this isn't really realistic. I'm just taking a bit of artistic license to move the story along. I don't want to make it seem like it's a simple thing that can be picked up overnight.
