I met Dave Dorman and his delightful wife Denise at yesterday's Gnomon Workshop in Los Angeles (full props to Gnomon; one of the best Gnomon Live! weekends to date).

Dave is my new hero because he maintains you can do (almost) anything on canvas or paper to achieve the image you see in your mind, such as using acrylics on an oil painting (without even waiting the requisite time for the oils to dry…).

So I'm posting the sports art I did where I was using watercolor and gouache and had laid down the background and then needed to carve out the negative space for the football player. So what did I do?? I frisketed the area out wiht velum and washers and pens (as weights) and then used a can of refrigerator white spray paint. Worked really well. You be the judge.

To Dave and Denise … I hoist a pint of Harp lager in your general direction today!
