Functionally Illiterate

I was reading about how that black chick from American Idol was functionally illiterate or something and decided to investigate what being functionally illiterate fully meant:

"When illiterate, one cannot read or write at all. In contrast, one who is functionally illiterate has a basic grasp of literacy (reading and writing text in his or her native language), but with a variable degree of grammatical correctness and style."

So I started thinking about all the dumb people I know and realized that I know a lot of people who could be considered at least, border line functionally illiterate. And I started to think about how instant messaging sort of outs a lot of people about how retarded their writing stills are.
