I wasn’t entirely sure about making this, as it felt a tiny bit political, but I'm glad I did, as I think it’s a good joke.

This comic was inspired by a change Disney made to the Pirates of the Caribbean rides at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. Formerly, the pirates were auctioning off the women of the town as brides, while now they are selling rich people’s possessions.

Personally, I’m not in favor of the change, as it lessens the impact of the ride as a cautionary tale. Whereas the unwilling brides in the original version were meant to be objects of pity, the aristocrats in the new version are presented as the butt of a joke. It makes the pirates seem less evil, which takes much of the bite out of the story.

All that being said, I understand the motivations behind the change, and I’m sure some parents will appreciate not having to explain to their 6-year-old exactly why the pirates were interested in those women.
