Amelia Earhart likely crashed 3500 miles away from the island where the crew of the Essex landed. Even if we assume a significant distance between where the crew landed and where Mindy is now, it is highly unlikely that Earhart would have survived all that time at sea with no food. That said, I think this is a cool idea that is well worth the artistic license.
