I just realized how little sense it makes for a 16-year-old girl in the Middle Ages with no formal education to reference Dante's Inferno. Perhaps an Italian merchant brought knowledge of the poem to the court of the King of Brickshire where it was translated into the local vernacular and read aloud, and Robin heard the reading and told Meg the story years later on one of the long winter nights on their farm? Sure, let's go with that.
