It’s kind of weird to think about, but at the time I write this, Mikhail Gorbachev is still alive, and has been promoting more democratic forms of government in Russia. He recently criticized Vladimir Putin for running for president again after having previously served two terms in the office. Interesting that a former leader of one of the most oppressive nations in history is now an advocate for freedom.

On a slightly less serious note, yes, I stole the Gutunov joke from the TV show Small Wonder. Here’s a link explaining the story behind it.
