I think I have more fun with each new character design. ^_^ I had many ideas for her ranging from a creepy old Mommy Fortuna type to an exotic young voodoo lady. I don't know how I ended up with this design, but Hyacinth is not really mysterious, just a lady playing a role.

I originally had only a vague idea about the origins of Yuki's wedding phobia, but I always intended to include a fortune teller in the story somewhere. (Most of my favorite shows have had one in an episode at some point.) I even drew a fortune teller tent in the background of the circus flashback.

Peipei: As far as fortune tellers go, Hyacinth isn't too scary, but if you believe in something, it's bound to be unsettling.

JustNoPoint: Lol. Yes, Yuki is rather flighty and quirky. She's actually based on a friend of mine – but my friend also reminds me of other fictional blondes (Mihoshi from Tenchi Muyo for one.)

LanceDanger: Actually, Hyacinth is fairly down to earth as far as fortune tellers go. She's just a typical fair worker, after all.

BetaJess: Ah, but knowing he's dead softens the blow. ;-) He isn't even my favorite dead person in the story. – Although he may have been the most loved by a main character.

amanda: My brother was so funny about the naming. I asked him for a fortune teller name, and he said, "You should use some exotic sounding plant name… like Hyacinth. That's some kind of plant, right?" – My brother named my comic. He's good at names.
