I was going to show Kaida and Tristan waiting for Mike at the restaurant, but this seemed to flow better and be more dramatic. Plus it illustrates the true tragedy of living in a city. Cities are places where one is surrounded by the most people and at the same time is the most alone. I remember hearing screams, fights, and sometimes gunshots when I lived in a city. You don't respond to them. You lock your door and check the clock … just in case the police ask you about it the next day. (While it is standard urban behavior, it might demonstrate something about Kaida too. Not all of the characters have this "street sense.")

patrick: The pressure exerted by stiletto heels is greater than that of an elephant standing on one foot, so they can do a great deal of damage – especially when one is trying. (People have been stomped to death by less vicious footwear.)

amanda: Yeah, it's always more rewarding to pull off drawings without references/models. :-) I drew a lot of hand close-ups in this chapter, and only that one picture used a model.
