The friend Kaida is talking about is Joe Everett, introduced on page 1119. (I really enjoyed that episode, btw. I don't even know why; it was just super fun to write and draw.) I confess, this story arc is expositiony and recappy. Gotta have those sometimes. There will be some new development too (or at least revelations). Pinky swear.

I cannot recall if I previously mentioned this snippet of Fudo's history (that he was an English major before he joined the circus). Most of my characters have life histories I know very well that just don't come up in the story.
