The Woman Page 01

Today is Valentine’s Day. A day which marks our second anniversary. A day which is all about happiness and hope. But here we work in the world of the hardboiled detective, and such things are in short supply.

Last year, thanks to Chuck and Ernie, we gave you sweetness and levity. This year we break your heart.

Sammi and I lost track of the days, so we’re having to throw this together at the last moment. Somehow, in a whirl of inspiration, Sammi wrote the entire piece last night. We’ll spread it over five pages and I’ll do my best to draw and post a page each day.

As always I began lettering by hand. Unfortunately it’s many years since I’ve written any cursive, and as such I’m well out of practice, so it’s looking a little sloppy. After spending entirely too much time trying to make it work I decided I just didn’t have the time left to spend. So, much as it pains me, I’ve resorted to digital type. At least for now. I really would like to do these pages properly, so most likely I’ll persist in getting that cursive right. Sure, there were alternatives, but I just don’t see this lady writing any other way. *EDIT* I did the lettering properly, because it looked crap. :)

Happy Valentine’s Day, folks.
