Strip X: A Marriage of Magic and Medicine
J_Scarbrough onWelcome to another VAMPIRE GIRL author note! Now, we have some good news, and bad news to share with you.
First the bad news: unfortunately, VAMPIRE GIRL will not be continuing on ComicFury . . . which really sucks. After I spent about a year and a half planning to not only have ComicFury be VAMPIRE GIRL's new permanent home in general, but also to kick of the comic's rebooted second season later this fall, not to mention spending a number of months designing and building the comic's website on their host, it's all come crashing down, all because I stupidly shot myself in the foot like an idiot. I really hate this, because I was really enjoying ComicFury as a whole, from all they had to offer for artists, authors, and creators looking for a host to publish their comics, to the really nice variety of different comics I found myself subscribing to, to the rather large and active community they had. I really, really wish it didn't have to come to this, but it is what it is. . . .
But, now for the good news: at least VAMPIRE GIRL has somewhere else to call home: Drunk Duck! I mean, The Duck! Yeah. Well, it was the only other webcomic host I could think of that's not only been around for a long time, but also happens to have a solid reputation . . . it's a lot more limited than ComicFury, and the community seems rather small in comparison, but maybe VAMPIRE GIRL can do just as well here? I don't know. We'll just have to see how this all turns out.
Well, now that that's out of the way, let's get onto the commentary.
Once again, this was something that Marie and I had brainstormed together. What exactly could be done to give a vampire mortality? Well, what the Wizard has read in his book is not only a marriage of magic and medicine, it was also a marriage of a couple of different concepts that Marie and I had recalled from other, older forms of vampire fiction. Things could get interesting for Levana.
And . . . sigh. When I was younger, I used to really love writing fourth-wall breaks and meta humor, because it was something that I kind of grew up with on a lot of the cartoons I watched as a kid (like ED, EDD N EDDY for example), but as I got older, and realized just how gimmicky the concept is, I've tried my best to avoid it at all cost (already, I haven't done too good a job, since Laura broke the fourth wall back in Strip IV) . . . but danged if I didn't break the fifth wall here! Sheesh!
Next week: hmm . . . Laura seems a little uneasy about something, doesn't she?
