"Apparently Rabies was something greatly feared, the idea of an infectious sickness where people become violent and attack others, seems to have a deep resonance. Prior to Louis Pasteur's vaccine (1885), unfortunates bitten by a dog who suspected they might have Rabies committed suicide or were killed by crowds. This was why Loius Pasteur had ample samples to test post exposure treatments."
