@Chernobog The kids are all Manda's. I mean, not IRL. At least as far as I know.
@repoman As all pages containing Harlequin should be. Thanks.
@freefal drift Tear shards are a token of exchange in this world. But they can be put to other uses, since they are a signature of sorts for the person who cried them. Not unlike tracking credit cards, only all esoteric-like in method.
@Genejoke Black yeah!
@wildcard Not that unusal in Uqbar, two scares in one day. And the Harlequin was polite.
@Lemniskate Glad to see you back! Hum, let's try and clear up any confusion, from about where I assume you had taken a break:
Farval is a rohmen (northmen) Lord that has come to Uqbar guided by a Weaverseer prophecy, to take a fruit from Owbrik's Orchard - an ancient ritual of passage reserved for greatest of heroes. Finding your own fruit and taking it is said to bring immortality, since it is then safe from the scythes of the Harlequin, the soul reapers. Ecko is chosen by the Harlequin to be Farval's "domen", but it turns out the fruit he is told to protect is the most precious of all - the fruit of the long lost rohmen Emperor, a hero destined to unite Men again. Moreover, Shanqari's lifeline is intervowen with it.
Farval appears and defeats embittered Ecko in the ensuing duel, as Sh gazes in horror. The Harlequin, surprisingly, recognize the victory and allow the Fruit of Man to be reaped, while killing the wounded Ecko as punishment and turning him into a banshee. Farval leaves with the fruit, the Harlequin leave with Ecko's soul and Sh is left in tears.
Sh takes Ecko's mask and boldly goes darkstrolling, intent on getting revenge - but something goes wrong. Instead of simply stepping through the portal, she is beset by visions, glimpses of the Weave and hounded by Doorbell!
Still, she emerges on the other side, unharmed. Her own fruit must really be out of Harlequin's reach - on that manta, preparing to leave Uqbar forever! She takes for the manta, leaving behind a huge tear-crystal. A Harlequin appears to take the crystal, implying that it is more valuable than a simple token of exchange.
So, two more paragraphs like this and we are at the end of Volume One!
@Jabali, MaSsA Thanks, bros.
