The Gadzooks Cave onSo, here rolls around another year, eh?
Let's write a newspost; like we used to - like a family.
I thought I'd share with you some of the comics I've been reading over the past month or so, on and off. There are, of course, the old stand-bys, that is, Penny Arcade (http://www.penny-arcade.com) and Ctrl+Alt+Del (http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com). Both are pretty much up to their standard, though I've found PA to be quite amusing recently, expecially with the addition of urethral discomfort. CAD, however, has been in a decline. I guess it's a bad sign when a (cough cough) Professional webcomic critiquer finds your material "no quite as fresh," but what can I say? In my part time as an artist, I double up as a gamer, so I habitually mingle the two when I'm not kicking Dan's ass at Gears of War - I find it annoying how he's tapered off from the main strip, (I speak of Tim Absath here), into a sort of strange romance between two of the characters: this doesn't cater to his nerdy, single, cheetos-stained fanbase, if you see what I mean.
Locally, I've been leaning towards God Shaped Holes (http://www.drunkduck.com/God_Shaped_Holes/). This is a fucking fantastic comic strip. I really can't tell you how much you need to read it - the thing that people try and detract from it is the artwork: well, quote me on this, FUCK THE ARTWORK! Sure, having some fancy-shit graphics looks cool, but if you don't have substance? Just forget it.
Here are a couple more of my favourites before I go - Men In Hats (http://www.meninhats.com, really original, consistantly funny, I'm really sad that it was put out production early '05, so, someone find Aaron Farber and give him a cookie. Road Waffles (http://www.roadwaffles.com) another good one; really striking art, good flow, it's pretty strange, and yes, I do model myself off of Merv.
Happy new year everyone!
-D.

Okay, I would like to say a "Happy New Year" to those who are reading Web on Web. Sure, we have one comment, but it would be greatly appreciated if more of you decided to give us some feedback - not the guitar-type, although that's equally great.
So I don't start to ramble, I might as well explain this one, since Dave's post was more from a critic's point of view. I have been in a bit of a creative slump at the moment with WoW (not to be confused with World of Warcraft), which was the inspiration behind this one (if you didn't notice yet, J is based on Dave, and Nate on me). In all honesty, I barely had a part in this one - Dave wrote and drew it all, and I just inspired him.
I am not trying to insult Dave in saying this, but there is a decline in the quality of this strip, compared to the last one. This is due to the fact that Dave's trial on the latest Photoshop (I'm not familiar with the version names) expired, although that does not particularly bother me. And, also, as he mentioned when discussing "God Shaped Holes" above, the artwork is not everything (although I must say that it can help a great deal).
I might as well get to explaining my lack of enthusiasm for writing Web on Web scripts lately - it's purely due to the fact that Dave has been pressuring me a lot lately to write one. I do have a life outside of Web on Web (albeit a rather bland one).
Well, until the next post,
Nick Sinnett,
Author of Web on Web (excluding this strip)
