Even though it's a Platinum Studios Comics comic, Weird Adventures has no editor editor. I run ideas by my boss there, but there's no strip-by-strip analysis/suggestion period. That's mainly because I finish scripts when I sit down to do the strips, but that's neither here nor not here.
When I run into difficult pages like this one, my style of last-minute dialogue writing becomes a curse. While my creative pals are great sounding boards for overall plot, I don't always have the same opportunity in the evenings. I've tried to run some dialogue bits by my almost-five-year-old, but his suggestions are almost always centered around boogers and poop. He's adorable.
Page four was a stumper. I was able to toss in some puns and such to save it, but the conversation they're having is so important to the story that I couldn't cut it out. You'll see where it was leading tomorrow and then as the scene concludes on Friday. It's big-picture stuff to the point I hope everyone will just follow along. Striking a balance between telling a great story and having a punch-line three times a week is difficult. But I like the challenge.
