Did I mention I'm only going to do this thing when I have time and definitely feel like doing it? That's why I missed about a week.

I’m probably not the kind of person you would expect to be a security guard, but there’s more than one kind of security guard. I would never have gotten a job doing security at a stadium or for an armored car even if I’d wanted to, but there’s another kind of security guard job where you mostly just sit there and occasionally write stuff down. I got my first security job by accident, and wound up keeping with it through much of my overly long time in college. More often than not I would sit at the front desk of some tech company and walk around the building once an hour. Most of the time I could read, write in a notebook, that kind of thing. My favorite post was the one where I went in on the weekends where they had unlimited free beverages, almost no one coming in, and I could get away with bringing my laptop to write stuff. While I definitely feel more appreciated (and get paid a bit better) at my current job where I have to actually do stuff, I do sometimes miss security my security work.

I have never been anywhere near as obsessed with sex as a lot of guys seem to be, which is a lot to do with how introverted I am, but let’s leave it at that. My security work was the only job I ever had where the men would start talking very differently about the opposite sex when there were no women around, and I always felt a bit out of place in those kinds of conversations. My Ethiopian coworker who shall remain unnamed (I still bump into him on the bus every once in a while, and he’s a really cool guy, and I think still working in security) apparently had a way with the ladies, and one time when there were rumors that the client was dropping our security agency all the women who worked there seemed worried that they weren’t going to see him around anymore. He has a huge grin full of white teeth with some gold ones, and he’s just generally a really awesome guy.
