#23: Yaruki Zero
nekoewen onI mentioned this in the Third Halo strip the other day, but Japanese teachers seriously love assigning presentations for some reason, and I've always hated them. Supposedly a lot of people list public speaking as one of their worst fears. At a certain point I stopped having any such fear, but unless I'm really into the topic (I love doing panels about RPGs), I hate doing presentations, much less skits that require memorization. In one class there was a group assignment to do a skit that was 5% of our grade. I tended to get good grades in college (high school not so much), but I was never an overachiever, so I had no qualms about just not doing the skit, except that I didn't need 5% taken off my overall grade. I was one of the people who hadn't formed a group voluntarily and thus got grouped together that way. The skit was kind of a wreck, and after it was over and I was heading to the train (which at SFSU is a longish uphill walk past the library and admin buildings) to head home I thought to myself, "We're Team Yaruki Zero!" Later when I moved my RPG blog to WordPress I picked the name "Yaruki Zero Games" as kind of a self-parody, though I'm sure no one finds it anywhere near as funny as I do. Sometimes I get tempted to make T-shirts or something though.
