The most challenging thing a parent faces is teaching their kid to tough out a situation that you can't remedy especially when you have trouble toughing it out yourself. The most common mistake we, or our partner, makes because of this is that we try to remedy the situation with gifts and such. I recall my own father used to be this way. If I or my siblings were sick or injured and could only tough it out, he tended to take it worse than we did.
