His nephew COULD have used a summoning technique as a surprise attach on the soldiers, but he shouldn't try destroying anything outright because that could put Melchior in further danger than he already is.
And yes, Alwyn (as are Alyth and Ailell but you can't see 'em) are closing their eyes. Why? Three words: Shiny metal armor.
