I don't know if he was internationally famous, but in the 1970s this man terrorized the United States, killing anywhere from 25 - (claims of)100 females, mostly pretty young women. He confessed to 30 attacks (4 of which the victims survived) and was suspected of holding out on other murders in hopes that revealing these victims would assist in a stay of execution.
