Ummm….no?

I'm sure there are some giveaways in there somewhere, but I've known people that could draw on both sides of any gender line I tried to cast.

It's usually the story that gives it away, in the end. :-D

No, not so much…handwriting, though, is usually a pretty good indicator for me. then there are guys with super girly handwriting that disturb me. XD

I'm sure there's people in the FBI that may be able to do that, but I don't think you'll find them on a Drunk Duck messageboard. 8)

Actually, id have to say YES. Most of the time.

Female artists tend to draw their characters more feminine. Including male characters=the guys looks like girls.

It might be more of a feeling but generally male comics are "rougher around the edges" with sharp boxy artwork, while female comics usually are more clean looking, round corners, etc.

yeah i know, male/female stereotypes, but its actually a lot like that.
I cant find any great examples on DD right now but i'll have a look later on.

In your case, herio, i'd take a guess that your a girl.

90% of the time, I can tell if a comic is done by a guy or girl.

Some things I've noticed:

GUYS:
- Thicker lineart. I can tell that the force exerted on the pen is much harder.

- Darker colors. Guys tend to use more "cold" colors in their art. Black. blue, green, dark purple, brown. Those are the colors most guys use.

- Emphasized features of female characters. Bigger boobs, sexier-looking legs that make me wanna go in and rub em… :)

- More action, more blood, more sex. Tho this is only 50% accurate. Ive seen comics with female authors that can be just as fucking brutal… or even more brutal than guy-made comics. If you can make a theme song for most guy-made comic, it should be any variant of rap or metal.

- More crude humor and green jokes. More daring and "in-your-face" jokes about politics, religion, race, and everything under the sun.

GALS:

- Thinner lineart. A girl cannot press too hard. There may be exceptions but that is the average.

- Lighter colors. More orange, red, yellow, pink, light purple, and lighter variations of "cold" colors.

- Emphasized features of male characters. They know how to draw "hot guys" properly. They all have fantasies of some macho knight in shining armor coming in to their house and taking them away to his magnificent castle…

- More drama, more relationship stuff. Porn for gals is a romance novel. So they know this better. If you make a theme song for a girl comic, its one of those boyband or r&b or love songs or any of the songs that most guys find annoying.

- As far as humor goes, I barely find girl humor funny at all. At the most, I chuckle but its not like I start laughing and rolling over the floor. There are exceptions. Ive seen some comics done by girls that have humor that can just make me laugh. Ya know… I like those cut+paste comics with hardcore stupidity or maddox-like stuff. And surprisingly, SOME female authors can do it too.

Just my 2-cents… :)

You can also tell if an artist is a guy or girl by looking at their avatar and the way they write their Author's Comments.

I once changed my avatar to that of an anime schoolgirl and everyone thought I was a girl. It was great.

I think I agree that usually you can tell the gener of a person by their art. If not by the style itself, then the subject matter. Sure, a person can "impersonate" a style of a person of another gender, so it's not ALWAYS possible.

And you know…
it seems like I generally see better art come from girls than boys.

I don't know why!

I press down very hard out of habbit when I'm drawing….it leaves my hand sore often. Though my lineart is still thin since I use a fine Micron that is also on the verge of death.

As for this whole debate….I say it depends. If the stereotypical signs are there than it can be easy to tell. Like if it's a shoujo or yaoi comic it's probably done by a girl. If it's the complete opposite of those two than it's, again, probably by a guy.

not really, I know some pretty manily girls and some pretty girly men…and even then it's pretty random. Although some extremes you can (usually guys won't have that kind of frily backgrounds, you know the ones…you've seen them)
