Drop Off in Ratings?

Posted at

Has anyone else noticed a drop off in ratings? I was number 80 last week in comic strips, now I'm number 163. Is this because of everyone going back to school? Or am I just losing my touch?

I guess if your readers are goin' back to school and checkin' the comic less often, that could explain it. But there are ups and downs. My rank will vary about 15 or 20 slots in a given week. I wouldn't worry about the numbers. Just make the best work ya can, and be glad people actually read it! ;)

Amen. There are soooo many comics (just here, even) that get no comments and presumably have a minimal fan base, if one at all. So having a readership alone is a wonderful reward.

Though a drop in average views would explain how my comic managed to creep up to #62 when I've been just outside of the top 100 for… well as long as I've been doing it, really!

our views dropped super low in the last week. I would guess it's back to school stuff, but that doesn't explain why they just jumped back up today out of nowhere.

Yeah, I was low with my stats as well. I made crap for tips at work last week, too. Something to do with astrology, I figure.

I've seem to have had more views since schools started. I can't explain it. I wish I could see where my views were coming from. That would really help me determine where to post ads and such.

No one goes to my comic, so go to it.

statcounter, or somethin' like that? I use that to look at my visitor paths, so I know what sites people who are more likely to go through the archives come from. Super helpful with placing ads.

Incidentally, every time I complain on the boards about lower stats, the next day is like, gangbusters. huh!?

I really like your strategy Hyena–for targetting your advertising. My problem is, I have no time to devote to advertising/monitoring/or the plethora of other things practically required to make your comic a financial success on any level. Heck, after bouncing around in the top 100 for awhile and getting all worked up when I'd drop in or out, I stopped even looking at my stats!
Too stressful. Life…keep it simple and relaxing…much better for the karma!!!

same here. usually less views over the summer.

i'm guessing it goes like: school starts, work, procrastinate.
summer, get off school, go outside.

Me too… it's weird. My comic is actually on hiatus and is now getting more hits than when I was regularly updating for the past month. It's not in the thousands like it was for a brief while… but I forgot my tracker password and their solution for that is to just get a new account…

I noticed that too. I thought my comics were really starting to suck. Which is probably true, but yeah my rating aren't what they used to be.

My rating was awfully high for a while, but despite the usual numbers that increase my rank, I plummeted, and I'm still there at the moment. I see that this is currently normal.

Hey Hyena, thanks so much for the statcounter advice–I never even knew a program like that was out there. I'm usin' it now! :)
