I am currently writing an introduction to a story set in a world I created. In this world I've got at least another three stories ready for writing.

Thus, I am looking for an artist, preferably one who doesn't take him- or her-self too seriously. This is not a paying job, just a webcomic with possible future publications through Lulu.com.

There's only two things I really ask, besides drawing it, and that is that the storylines are still legally mine and that you draw it based directly on what I've written.

For information, you can contact me through the following means:

MSN: msn@squaremonkeys.org
GTalk: johan.tenge.x@gmail.com
E-Mail: johan@squaremonkeys.org / johan.tenge.x@gmail.com / johan@brokenrosefoundation.org

So let me get this straight.

You want someone to draw something you plan to publish in the future…

And you DONT feel like paying them?

Good luck on that, noone will take it. I guarentee it.

Okay, to clarify: You WILL get paid when published, but every time I request artistic help I only get contacted by people who expect a rate-per-page.

I'm affraid when an artist is comissioned. That's what happens. They want to get payed and not work for nothing. They can't guarentee it'll get published as your writing may not include appropriate material :3 Simple as that.

Can you possibly blame them?

Making comic pages takes way more time than writing a script. Sure, you made the plot, but the artist is doing almost all of the hard work.

Until you realize this and offer to treat your artists like partners rather then 'people who expect a rate-per-page', you will never find someone to draw your stuff.

i agree. i came to this thread thinking "well thats cool… fantasy comic that needs an artist. mayb i could help" but 2 things you said just rubbed me the wrong way. a) you act like its not a collaborative project. saying things like drawing exactly as i have written, while understandable, could be restated. artists are odd finicky folk, and many, including me, dont like being pushed into a fixed way of things. and b) no pay with possible publication. i agree with rich. when i used to just write for these type of things, i had no clue how much work went into them. but now im drawing too, and only half ratedly at that, but even so, i know that it takes me atleast three nights (after work and gradschool) to finish just one strip. if you should get paid, why should i?

sorry for beating a dead horse :-/ just be careful- remember that if your advertising for a position, your not just attracting one person, but everyone who sees it should be ok with it. we dont want anyone jipped, so we'll all comment on it if we dont agree with it.

Unless you're Alan Moore, people are not going to draw "exactly what you've written".

Just a thought…

You can get a partner for no money down, because they're investing everything you do as well…

But a labor force to do the dirty work with no creative input can't always afford a charity job.
