well, i don't really have anything important to say, the name's Nate, I just quit a decent-paying office job and I'm thinking about pursuing my childhood ambitions as an artist. In the meantime, I'm searching for a part time job, riding my bike, and trying to build a new portfolio. Drunkduck seems like a great place to flex one's creative muscle, and get some easy exposure at the same time. I love to read comics, so message me and i'll check yours out!

Hey there Nate. :)
What type of job are you looking for? There's many different ways you can apply your trade as an artist. Not all of them very obvious. Is there a specific avenue you're looking to get into, I mean besides what might be the obvious comic author avenue. ;)
Welcome to the site, I'm pretty new here, under a week. I've got two comic linking in my sig if you want to check them out, one's mine, and the other is one I'm assisting on.
YAY for quitting "stupid day jobs." I taught for a few years; before deciding it was beneath me and that I would rather eat qagh stew than teach another gorram day. We're also tryin' to live up to childhood aspirations. I think you'll find Drunk Duck very fun and friendly.
Honestly, I'm not sure I know what I'd want to do for the rest of my life… I've been making comics since I first picked up a pencil, I love everything about making comics; writing, drawing, even inking. I've been to comic-con though, and i've seen those sorry bastards trying to "pay their dues" in hopes of someday getting their own series, and frankly it seemed to me that if you let it, comics can be just another job working for the man, trying to climb the ladder.
I really admire guys like Frank Miller, Dave Sim and Jeff Smith not just for their talent, but because they took risks and did what they wanted to do.
Anyway, I'm full of crap.
Nah, you're not full of crap, I understand what you're saying.
Bottom line is, you gotta dive right in and go after what you want to do. I'm sure that's what the people you admire would tell you as well. Not all risks will pay off, but keep trying. Eventually you'll hit that one risk that will pay off. :)
