School blocking sites... Bad... or for our own good...

Posted at

They block the most stupidest sites that ppl like to go to.
Here are just a few.
youtube, facebook, photobucket, gaiaonline, flashportal, newgrounds, jmanx, actionflashgames, deviantart, any thing with the words " Music, proxy, or lyrics" in the website.

I think most of them should be un-blocked… to bad the board of edumacation wont listen. thank god im a senor. and yes my spelling still sucks but who cares.
:gem: pisses me off.

And why do you need youtube, facebook, photobucket, gaiaonline, flashportal, newgrounds, jmanx, actionflashgames, deviantart, or music sites to pay attention in class or do your schoolwork?

You may not understand this (which is a little sad if you are a 'senIor' ), but tax dollars aren't being spent to make your school into an amusement park.

Explain exactly WHY your school should un-block these sites. Until then you just sound whiny. ;)

The reason school blocks websites?

[turn on conspiracy mode]

Basically, it is an attempt by the global new world order to assert more control on its population.

Because if the people are less free, it means more power for the new world order.

They learned this following the example of progressive countries like China and North Korea. As these countries have successfully blocked off information from the capitalist world, they have succeeded in controlling their populations. And aside from that, the insertion of propaganda to brainwash its population into submission… gives them more control.

Youtube, facebook, etc… are known to be mediums used by terrorists to plan terror attacks.

Schools… have students who work for al quaeda or some foreign government that is trying to spy on the USA. For example… since asians look young (or get started young doing espionage work), China or North Korea can send in their agents with fake documents to be disguised as students. That way, they can use youtube and facebook to send in the good stuff. Like USA military secrets, locations of important buildings, etc… etc… etc…

Also, if the people get used to their lives being regulated… that will mean less chances for a rebellion breaking out.

Spang is right. You're in school to a) learn and b) socialize not to dick around on the internet. You have the rest of your life to do that.

I don't mind if they block websites, for the purpose of our education, however this is what grinds my gears. They block a lot of websites, but no YouTube. You would think that that would be the first one to be blocked.

Oh well.

to be honest when you go on those sites you really should be doing your work but yeh it is annoying

In some cases you might need a website for research, but usually those aren't the kind of sites that get blocked. Unless you're researching porn…

… Porn? dude… several reasons why thats wrong.
1.) why would i look up porn at school? i got a comp at home.

But if i want to see a vid of a roman empire getting destroyed by some trosans on youtube, (nova can animate it if it hasn't been done.), Then they bloick youtube and then google video has it blocked cuzz they blocked youtube and half of the google videos ARE youtube. so you cant rely on google, nor lycos. nor any other video site. and pluse you need to play a gam e here or then to stop that erdge from killing ppl that Piss you off at school.

There's a fine line between looking up and researching…

…….. ok…bad example….. let me see…. Beowulf. the movies coming out. and i cant go to a theater…. so i would like to see a bootleg version of it and guess what….. YOUTUBES F***ING blocked!

For four years I worked for the IT department of a public school district. They block what they suspect they could be sued for. Social network sites COULD be used to send harassing messages to people, so they're typically blocked. Web mail sites COULD etc. so they're typically blocked. Proxy services like Coral COULD be used to evade the blocking so they're blocked. As soon as a parent complains about a video their kid tells them they downloaded from youtube at school, youtube will be blocked.

These decisions are not made at the school board level (the decision to implement content filtering might be made at the school board level, but the decision of how precisely to implement is left to IT). The decisions about what sites to block aren't made by ANY board. Every school in America is having to deal with inadequate funds right now – you probably have one part-time IT guy in most districts who's responsible as just PART of his or her job for reviewing the content blocking rules, and you can bet that if s(he) sees an e-mail from a concerned teacher, administrator, or parent, the site in question will just be added to the block list.

There's not time to review a site and make an informed decision, and law suits are even more expensive than informed decisions. If you don't like it, when you graduate, vote to give more of your money to education.

..giai online has nothing holy on it. neither does newgrounds.

so obviously they're blocked.

facebook has viruses on it.

flashportal has nothing to do with school. so it's blocked.

youtube isn't blocked at my school.

deviantart also has nothing to do with school. as well as just about everything you listed.

school is not for fun it is for learning.

Why does it matter if some shit is blocked at school? Just do your work and then read a book when you're done. A teacher is less likely to give you detention if you're reading a book or working instead of playing 'bloody generic how far can I launch the fucking object game' #98098970910.

Really, it's not worth the time to whine about schools block that shit since you'd just get in trouble when (not if) they caught you anyways.

Last year they tried to block Drunkduck at my old shcool. It didn't work but they still tried.

What the hell did the first post say? I could barely understand a word.

But yes, blocking sites in school is a good thing, because then you should be learning (but clearly, some people can't be helped). The idea this the 'most supidest' (?) really makes me worry for the future of whatever country you're in.

You don't even have to be a good speller, just use a bloody spell checker or something.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say America.

School's aren't letting you steal movies? Those bastards! My god, I can remember back when I was in school, the teachers would go to the theaters themselves with video cameras, then distribute copies to students for free! Mind you, this was in the VHS days, so that's really saying something. What has happened to our educational system when we're not even able to break a few international copyright laws without digging around for upwards of 9, dare I say, 10 minutes of finding things in places other than Youtube!

It's atrocious isn't it? Before I left I tried to set fire to the PE field, and they took my matches off me! Not only that, but gave me a detention! What's become of the education system?

All I remember is typing class….I typed out everything a hundred times faster than everyone else. XD Silly small-towners. Even the teachers often asked for help from students with the comps because they had no idea what they were doing.

I think I might've went on Google a couple of times while waiting for everyone else to finish, ehehehe.

Dayum…

Now I realize why the TD shudders at the slightest mention of your name.

Dude, school is for learning. If you paid more attention in class than you did to Newgrounds, etc, you MIGHT have been able to spell SENIOR by now.

Just read a book, its good for you.

It doesn't bother me so much. What does bother me though is when Essex or Sussex or names like that get blocked because it contains the work 'sex'.

So far I haven't needed the words Essex and Sussex, but one day.

One day…

We have a brand of glass cleaner stuff called 'Glassex'.

I have no sympathy for those whinin' about public schools blocking sites. Play on the computer when you get home and it's your parent's fault if anything seedy occurs. All teachers have an override; if appropriate they'll let you see what you want…

As for "networking" sites. Chris Hanson doesn't have a career for nothin'.
