Hey, all….
I've only been at DD since 4/4/08 after having hosted my comics at other sites. Have found the community here at DD to be livelier and WAY cooler, and I've had a blast most recently as one of the panelist/judges for the 2008 Drunk Duck Awards!
I've been called a groundbreaker in 3D graphic novel illustration. I don't know about that…yet. I've got a long way to go, and since my last book review I've resolved to step up my game and make my stories better and better. You wouldn't believe how much more there is to learn.
I love my group of friends. I've had lots of questions about 3D illustration, book promotion, how to write a good story….as I said, I'm still new to all of that, but I'm never too busy to help someone out, or point out new venues for someone else to promote their series. I've been singed by other cutthroat artists in my day (no, not Skullbie XD :P ) but I've found that helping others out is much more fun.

Welcome! Wow, I've read quite a bit about you, but haven't really checked out your comic yet I'm ashamed to say. Mostly, as Custard noted, because many of the 3D comics I've read have seemed rather unemotional and lifeless. But as I said, yours has garnered much attention, and I really ought to get off my bum and read it. I bet I'd be in for a pleasant surprise. ;)
Hope you have some fun here with the rest of us wacky, zany, comickers. Or, in my case, writer, as I have a supply of canned artist. :)

Canned artist!! Awesome! I need to buy by the case. No offense taken, Trout! We wouldn't have 3D without 2D planning and design. *Sigh* I have to get off my can and do 12 pages of pencils for HOM #3, actually…I haven't pencilled a comic page in almost 20 years. Ack. I'm trying to get Zen and get on with it.

To both questions. 3D art is easier than 2D…I've been told it's the lazy way of creating illustrations, but not when I've had to build Sparta, Athens, Egypt and Mytilene on my laptop.
Right now I'm teaching 3DStudio Max at the college I graduated from, and my students seem to think it's harder than 2D at the moment. We've suffered through a clunky interface, constructing characters, creating skeletons for them, and animating scenes. They actually have their little projects moving around now, which in 3D animation is the same momentous kind of event as when the first Neanderthals discovered fire.
I use DAZ3D Studio with stock Victoria, Stephanie, Michael and David characters. From there, yes, I have had to rebuild them with individual features, Greek noses, and I have saved these individual traits as "morph" scripts in my character folders. Rendering the final scene is the easy part. It's setting up the actions and the scenes that is most interesting.

I've never understood why people think that an art form is less valid because it's easier to do than mixing paint with your own blood and tears and using a brush made from nostril hairs you plucked out.
Also, I think it's hilarious that the person who reviewed you mentioned she didn't like the 3D program you use. That's like saying criticising a hand drawn comic because you don't like that particular brand of ink.
Custard, excellent post… I hate people that use HB pencils and therefore all of their work sucks… 4H is okay though (just kidding… no one flame me :)
I think it's very difficult to make 3D work and look "right"… houseofmuses stuff is amazing and clearly the artist spents a LOT of time working on it.

Let's see…I started tinkering with DAZ studio, I think, late in 2005, early 2006 while I was still a student at Louisville Tech. See, I was one of those disadvantaged late-bloomers, too, but with a lot of previous graphic design experience, which was why they got to see a 42 year old graduate college with a bunch of 21 year olds. But I wasn't the oldest one there…that would have felt really weird.
Anyway. I dabbled with creating the initial scenes from HOM #1 until summer of 2007, accumulated hundreds of scene files til I worked up the skill to create more complex scenes. Finally some teen in another forum piped up and said, "Why don't you take this story you've written and do a graphic novel?" I took what I had, set up my pages in Illustrator, and banged out HOM #1 in a record two months (I was also unemployed at the time).
The rest, as they say, is history.
