the way to understand this trick is to run evolution past physics. you have this ultimate attraction force that is too powerful, but the landscape of the universe that it was spawned changes (within the first couple seconds if i remember my quantum physics.) so it evolves into untold numbers of little forces, most of which dont work. where as strong, weak, electromagnetic, and what we call gravity were the fittest so they survived. other forces either were TOO effective and the universe stopped forming (in which case we wouldnt be around to observe) or useless (we dont observe them anyway.) ghost knows this. while using this rule- repulsive force would simply be gravity acting in the opposite direction. true antigravity would force apart these bonds that this super gravity would make by canceling them out. so by creating a super strong gravity force in a small area, all it would take is a touch of real antigravity to completly unbind the particles and force them to scatter away from a gravity source. by naming repulsing force "antigravity" people stopped looking for true antigravity and instead took the attitude of "we've learned all there is to know" even a super advanced race can blind themselves to other possibilities :3
