This was actually the final page of the Killing Demons book that Brent and I completed. We felt that the transition from the previous page to the next page was too jarring, so we slipped this page in to slow down the pacing and continue with the suspense building. One of the things that I think makes Japanese horror comics successful (i.e. Uzumaki, The Drifting Classroom, Gyo, etc.) is the exploded storytelling format that allows for extended multi-page sequences where very little might be going on plotwise, but a tremendous amount of suspense and terror is building with each turn of the page.
The addition of this page also allowed us to more properly introduce Joshua's family in the third panel and to better prepare the reader for the dark events that follow on the next page.
