Scene One p2
PeterAaronRose onOK, we'll do two pages today since the previous one was simply an interstitial and I'm a swell guy who loves you all.
Regarding this page specifically, one of the many things I loved about living in Manhattan was the architecture of the old Brownstone buildings, particularly on the upper east side. The door knockers, specifically, were pretty fun to observe. Not sure if anyone's ever done a coffee table book on them, but it wouldn't be a bad idea. Anyway, I scripted the entire book while living there, so you'll see lots of NYC references scattered throughout the story.
This page also marks the first appearance of Sarah Bentley, as well as Joshua's butler, Robert. Sarah is of particular interest to us as she represents the perspective of the reader, being dropped into a world that is certainly alien to our own. She's the outsider peering in, as we're quickly about to discover.
Brent also gets to exercise his digital shading and lighting talents with this page, especially in the last panel, which is multi-layered with the light coming off the candles, reflected in the mirrors, as well as the floor, not to mention the characters and objects in the room. Knowing Brent, he probably spent a day or two on this panel alone…!
