I had a DARK SHADOWS thing going on in the earliest drafts of the KILLING DEMONS script. I exercised most of it as we took the book in a more serious direction, but left this one page in as kind of a secret tribute to the early Barnabas Collins appearances (which, in turn, often riffed on Bela Lugosi's dramatic entrances in the original Dracula).
More importantly, this page also marks the first full appearance of the adult Joshua Brand, as well as the first actual meeting of our two story protagonists.
Brent had a fun time with Joshua's cane, which is exaggerated from the original script, but in a good way. If you follow it throughout the book, you'll see Brent playing around with it in terms of perspective, shadowing and lighting. In some ways, he made it into a character all its own, certainly beyond the intentions of your humble writer.
