I've always been a realist about black holes, as far back as I can remember. It was only when I was in my late teens that I found out that there actually were people who had problems imagining holes in space-time (in that case, it was even someone my age, not older people as one might imagine).

And I guess to many people "love" might be an abstract concept, while sex might not.

Anyway, I hope those who voted signifikat for "most profound comic" are not regretting this by now ;-)

Scorpious: I'll relay your request to the admins, 'cause I sure want to be be rated with a 100! :3 Thanks a lot, in any case!

JNP: Thanks, that expression was a result of try-and-error. Sometimes, especially with this comic, I can't exactly pinpoint in advance which effect I'd like to achieve in the end, and I can only find out by actually putting the pencil to paper. Regarding your question… in any uncontroversial common-sense way of defining love: No, he does not love her. But in fact I don't think I should try to find a word describing his feelings toward her accurately. Sure, attraction is a part of it. But repulsion equally so. I don't think he told her this because he loved her… he probably only noticed that she was the first girl he told all this at this very moment I'm depicting on this page. Still him saying so makes it harder for her to simply leave him there (about which she wasn't so sure anyway), so that could have been his intention (but I'd really like to keep that ambiguous… there's a difference between someone's actual intention and the most convenient way of interpreting someone's actions). Between finding someone attractive and thinking of him/her as special (in this case, being the first yadda yadda) there's a justificatory relationship, but not a causal one. I know this all doesn't answer your question in the straightforward way you suggested in your question… I think you asked the right question though.

Jabali: That's easy to say using such a vague vocabulary :D Some people even have trouble defining what's sex, as we saw with Bill Clinton. Still I'd say it's a bit easier than defining hate, and defining hate is still easier than defining love :D

Fitz: My original idea was relating gravity and attraction. But when thinking this through, I did have severe doubts… I'd have renounced to mention black holes if it had just been used for that kind of metaphor ;-) And regarding what one should/shouldn't do: (1) The comic is there for playing out those things you'd better not do (2) He's singled her out for revenge, not for making himself appear attractive to her (the whole point is that he's tired of doing things by the book) (3) You sure I should be taking advice from you on that matter? :-P

man in black, Nepath: Thanks!
