Alternative Ending (2 of 2)
Abt_Nihil onSorry, the page is a few hours late – the Internet Gods denied me access for almost a whole day! How very, very cruel.
Anyway, this is the end. Really! Swear to God! (Whichever God you happen to like best.)
Well, at least it's the end of the daily updates. There will definitely be one more update sometime next week (I'm still working on it).
So, where do we go from here?
We'll go to Eat My Shorts, where pages will also update daily, starting next Monday! Then we'll go to Holon, where updates will start Monday, July 19th (that's the week after). So many comics to help you deal with your sadness over losing signifikat!
Finally, a huge thanks to everyone who has read signifikat, especially DAJB, JustNoPoint, alejkhan and Fitz, who have been commenting on a whole lot of pages! DAJB may even have commented on… all of them? :O Jabali and Nepath might be runners up in that category, and man in black, mmm bacon0 and Zephyrion have been satisfying my craving for 5s regularly… I wonder, what'll I do with so many 5s? And sorry to everyone I might have forgotten about… there were some great and helpful comments by people who showed up and then vanished again… mlai was one of them, but I'm bad at remembering their names.
Again, thanks a lot, and I hope to see you on my other comics! I explicitly recommend Holon to everyone who liked signifikat… while the story will be completely different, this comic will probably take signifikat's place in some abstract sense. But I'll warn you… it won't be about sex (quite) as much! :P
REPLIES:
Jabali: I can't help but being thankful that people like my stuff :3
Fitz: Phew! And yeah, it's so obvious… why didn't Otomo think of that?? :3
mmm bacon0, Zephyrion: Thanks!
DAJB: Seems like the only happy endings I can give you are ironic ones! ^^;
alejkhan: Hey, you're welcome.
JNP: Glad you like the ending(s)! And very well-spotted - the hand-smashing-the-Cowgirl is a very real possibility! Okay, I'm being vague here… but the whole theatre, or city block, collapsed, so it wouldn't do her any good either way. Whatever happened, neither Sunhra nor Ed would want to smash the Cowgirl intentionally, of course :P
As for the baker, he is probably the weak point in the last two chapters. He's a sort of deus ex machina in plot terms, but his main role is to function as another metaphor for the paradox of how wanting to find love can lead to being alone. However, that's the story the Dad tells to his daughter, Princess - and it is JUST a story. It suggests that the baker "baked" Sunhra with a specific goal in mind - and this specific goal is what Mrs Wong and Princess pursue by piecing together the machine (of which Sunhra is a part) which the baker supposedly intended to build. Meaning: He did not resurrect Iia (if that's who you think he was intending to resurrect, you were right ^_^), but he built the means to resurrect her: Sunhra. But the second layer of meaning here is: Iia may well be a figment of his imagination. In creating Sunhra, he may have created an original deity, not resurrected an old one. The idea that Iia was the source of language, of living in close community, culture and all sorts of human relationships is made plausible through the prologues, so by the time the baker story is told, any reader would probably have accepted that Iia is more "real" than the baker. So, the "hidden" layer of this story is that it may be the other way around. Okay, I revealed quite a lot of "secrets" in this reply, eh? ^_^ And yes, alternate endings are great, you should try 'em too! :P I hope my other comics will alleviate your sadness over missing signifikat somewhat.
