Dream page 3

When I saw the very first page of 'Friction' it made me jump. The art at the beginning was not as polished as it is today, but together the art and text were powerful, and I was moved.

Patricia was only 15 or 16 yrs old when she drew that first page, and I have to say it is one of the most memorable comic pages I have ever read in my life. By the time I discovered 'Friction' it had already been in the top ten long before I knew it existed, but I didn't know that then. As I read each page in turn I became confused a lot, mainly because I didn't realise that the pages were supposed to be read backwards! I didn't know much about Manga then, but I was hooked on the relationship between Cass and Lex. Tentative and shy, Lex pursues her love for Cass hoping and dreaming but never daring to ask the question which might ruin everything..'Are you in love with me too?'
So inspired was I, that I put pencil to paper and began drawing the first page of 'Simply Sarah'

There is something about Patricia's art that still makes me weak at the knees at times. Often doubting her ability, Patricia loses confidence too easily and berates herself too hard, but though she falters she keeps going, and her art just impresses me more and more, with each new page.

Her latest venture 'BLUE' is just as compelling as friction was.
'Blue' is about an artist named Chris. She's very strange, and oblivious. And she has a very hard time with her words. So most of her relationships don't last very long. Then one night, she hears a crash outside her apartment, and goes to check it out. And there she finds a girl in her trash! Chris takes her in and begins to get to know her. Stumbling on her words worse than ever before, she can't stop thinking about the girl, and as the days pass it just means more and more trouble for Chris to get into.

Her new banner alone took my breath away on this one, and yet she said she worried for hours before finally putting it up, because she thought it wasn't good enough! I know me and Patricia share a lot of the same readers, but if you haven't seen her stories I would thoroughly reccommend you do.

FRICTION

Fans of Patricia's work will no doubt also be interested in her sisters work on her own comic 'HUMAN NATURE' A science fiction story about an android on the run. It's a lot different from her older sisters work, but it has got a good story, good humour, and she has the same inherent flair for art as Patricia. It's fascinating to spot the similarities.
HUMAN NATURE

Have a great weekend, I'll post another page tomorrow!
