SS3 77 Janey begins to explain

I was visiting my dad during the week and glanced out of the window to see the former girlfriend of mine whom Janey is based on standing with her parents. I haven't seen her for almost 20 yrs and my first impression was that she looked sadly so much like her mother now. Her mum always seemed to me to be very moody and miserable most of the time when we played together as children; she was stockily built with a downturned mouth and a hard no nonsense sort of a face. I felt suddenly deeply sad that this girl who in my mind's eye was exceptionally beautiful and whose face nearly always radiated pleasure and enthusiasm had now lost her lovely smile, the sweet blushes, and the watermark twinkle of mischief in her eye. My dad was on some rant about a man at his church who had contradicted him during the week, but I was miles away in thoughts and memories until he eventually asked me what I was looking at. I told him I was looking at 'Janey' and thinking how badly she had let herself go over the years, and after looking over my shoulder, he said,'But that's not her, it's her mum's sister!'

My dreams are intact! :)
