SS4 58 NICK'S STORY 3

Dark Visor: SS is full of chronological inconsistencies!! I realised early on that although SS is roughly set in the 'now', certain things like mobile phones and the internet were not a part of my life for the first 20yrs at least but I included them to make the story seem more current. The important thing to me was that although many things change during our lifetimes, human nature and our emotional struggles are probably just the same now as they have always been for each age group, so by having a sort of surreal timeline I felt I could have fun putting scraps into the scenery which are personal to me but don't ruin the timeline for a casual reader. At present Sarah, Janey and their old schoolfriends are all about 25yrs old and Nick is about 30 (but old enough to have a daughter of about 6 ). So if the 'Now' was 1991 then that makes it about right for him to see the first Star Wars film in '77 when he was 16…. except of course the two girls went to see Avatar last year which also throws thing out again! I prefer to stick with a slightly bendy 'now' as it gives the whole of SS a slightly dreamlike quality that focuses on the characters and their thoughts and emotions while the background is more curious and less defined.

Talking of surreal, on Saturday Nick dreams he is at a rather weird party!!
