So, as you all can see, the changes didn’t simply stop with the art change. Changing the layout of the comic is something I have been considering for a while now, but just didn’t know how to go about it. Personally, I am a really big fan of the classic comic strip construction, with side by side panels. I think that the layout works very well, and it helps keep timing in check. The thing was, I didn’t know what sizes to make the strips when I was starting to cartoon, so I just did the two rows of two. This Christmas changed all of that, however, when I got an amazing book on cartooning, which details the dimensions of the comic strips in the news paper. I was excited to try it out, and I am pleased with how it turned out.

Other than helping with timing, it will also make it easier for everybody to read the strips. With everything in one, neat row, you all won’t have to scroll when reading the comic, which, is a giant pet peeve I have when reading webcomics.

In addition to the enhanced layout, I changed the way that I went about doing the comic. Instead of digitally inking the comic, I decided to try physically inking the comic (like dip pen and ink well inking), and I am really pleased with the result. Now, there are still some kinks I have to work out (like not accidentally getting ink on my hand and smearing all over the strip), but this is going make doing the strip a lot easier in the long run and produce a much nicer final product.

The final thing I want to talk about is Beowulf. When I heard that Beowulf was being made into a movie I was really excited. I really enjoyed the story in high school (enjoyed, not loved), and thought that it would make a pretty cool movie. Unfortunately, my expectations were not met, as Beowulf was one of the worst movies I have EVER seen. There was so much wrong with it, from the horrible CG to the horrible spectacle that they turned the Beowulf/Grendel fight into. All those things aside, I think the biggest issue I had with it was that they turned Beowulf, who was a hero into a power hungry pervert.

See you all next Monday,

DJ
