The Day The Clocks Stood Still, Pg. 4

This is the last of four pages I wrote/drew in early 2008 for the second volume of a German anthology by the name of "Jazam!". The English version is also included in Bombshell #0.

Given there's a (pretty tame) mention of economics on this page, I should add a few remarks. Bombshell is partly about economics, and lines like "I'm fighting economics" may sound a bit skewed these days. In my mind, the underlying point is still valid though (and probably more than ever):

(1) We still go out and trade goods against printed paper, and the value of that printed paper (or imprinted metal, or credit cards, or what have you) still depends on an expected value, not a material one (as far as I have heard, no actual bill is worth its expected value, while some coins are worth a bit more than what they're traded for - I've heard that the least-valued coin in German currency would be worth a bit more if you were to melt it and sell the metal it's made of - which is illegal, of course). And this sort of financial system won't go away that easily, even though banks may not trust each other these days.

(2) Immoral deeds are still rewarded financially. And I'm not talking about "banksters" here – the real problems are arms trade and such, not dealing with non-existent money (in any sense of the words "real" and "immoral").

(3) The financial system's currently being salvaged, not changed. At least to some degree the public opinion seems to be that the system's failed, but then wanting to salvage it would be absurd. So we'd have to assume the system's in fact not failed. And in the most basic sense, I agree.

REPLIES:

Hero: Yup, I actually prefer those… if they don't involve giant robots. Then it would be a waste! :-)

AzuJOD: Haha… I don't think that's too smart… the alternative would just be rather stupid :D

JoeyS: Well, you might say time is something you can't ignore or fight, but there are better and worse ways of dealing with it. Thank you very much - that's one of the best compliments I can imagine.

Everybody: Thanks!
